Home / The surroundings / the village

Collevecchio is a small and sleepy medieval village in the province of Rieti in the Italian region Latium, with less than 1,500 habitants, located about 70 kilometres (43 miles) north of Rome and 45 kilometres (28 miles) of Rieti, right on the border with Umbria. It is part of upper Sabina, between the river Tiber valley and the Monti Sabini.

Casale ‘Regina’ is situated close to the village – with spectacular views over the Sabin hills and the valley of Collevecchio.   The village itself has a local bar, a supermarket, a pharmacy, a butcher and a hairdresser. Daily groceries can be done at local supermarket ‘Conad’ – next to great selection of (Italian…!) wines, you can find here also the delicious bread and pastries from ‘Il Vecchio Forno’, the regional bakery.  And after you’ve done your groceries, have an espresso at the local café, maybe a little pastry, and exchange some words with the locals;  having an espresso in the morning is not a special occasion, it’s a way of life.

Dolce far niente.
